This is a 2 year fixed term contract for an experienced Multidiscipline Biomedical Scientist to work out of hours shifts.

Job summary
The successful Biomedical Scientist will assist in the provision of a comprehensive and appropriate multidiscipline Out of Hours (OOH) diagnostic service to users through the performance and interpretation of manual, semi-automated and fully automated laboratory investigations for the Blood Sciences Laboratory Services.
Our client’s pathology department currently operates as 4 entities – Haematology,
Clinical Chemistry, Microbiology and Histopathology with a combined total of 390,000
Specimens per year. The post holder will be expected to work across all four specialities and process approximately 70 tests whilst on shift.
Duties:
-Responsibilities also include timely authorisation and release results in the Blood Sciences Laboratory
-To maintain at all times the required high standards and quality and an up to date knowledge of Haematology and Blood Sciences Laboratory Services theory and current working practices including technical problem solving of analytical equipment in Haematology, Blood Transfusion, Microbiology and Biochemistry.
-Assist in the day-to-day operation of a designated area of Blood Sciences Laboratory required by the shift rota.
-Undertake technical validation of results from laboratory investigations where necessary, using judgemental expertise and ensuring accuracy and precision as specified by laboratory protocols and quality procedures.
-Ensure work is completed in a timely fashion and to satisfactory standards, ensure that results are reported within the agreed turnaround times and appropriate action is taken to communicate problems to colleagues. Seek advice form Managers and senior staff, (Super Users) when required.
Requirements:
-BSc Hons in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent essential
-Comprehensive single disciplinary theory knowledge
-Specialist diploma from the Institute of Biomedical Sciences or equivalent
-Must be competent in basic multidiscipline practical techniques or automation and must also be competent in the interpretation and technical validation of results.
-Competent in the investigation of abnormal results and have knowledge of health and safety legislation, quality control and assurance and quality management and audit
-Must be competent in the interpretation and technical validation of results and possess technical problem solving e.g. equipment failure, quality control failure
-Applicants will need to gain registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
