We are very pleased to congratulate one of our Sleep Physiology locums on his first TV appearance, which was aired on BBC 1, at 9.00pm on Wednesdays and Thursday of this week!
Roswyn Ward, a locum Sleep Studies Physiologist from London, featured in BBC 1’s two-part documentary ‘Good Night Britain’ which studied the cases of some of the countries worst sleepers.
The documentary, aimed to provide expert advice and practical solutions to five real-life participants, suffering from a range of conditions including extreme snoring, insomnia and night terrors.
Helping to tackle their sleeping problems, were sleep experts Dr Kristie Anderson, Consultant Neurologist and Honorary senior lecturer, Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals, and DR Jason Ellis, Psychologist and Director of the Northumbria Centre for Sleep Research, along with Mediplacements locum Roswyn Ward.
Roswyn assisted patient Paul Ashbury, who had potentially fatal Obstructive Sleep Apnoea and could stop breathing for up to 25 seconds at a time, by fitting him with a Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine.
The CPAP machine has proved highly successful, ensuring Paul now has a good night’s sleep, and he has since said ‘to be honest I feel like I have a new lease of life’.
We are delighted for Roswyn for taking part in the BBC production, promoting awareness and thankfully providing some positive outcomes to some of the many Britain’s affected by sleep disorders.
We caught up with Roswyn prior to his TV cameo; "It was a great experience, thank you so much for the opportunity. The production team were fantastic and it was great to meet Paul the patient and of course, see myself on telly! It's always rewarding when you achieve the best solution for the patient and I'm very pleased we did this for Paul, allowing him to get a good nights sleep and get back to work!"
If you missed Roswyn in action, Goodnight Britain is available to watch on BBC iPlayer. Roswyn’s first appearance is in part 2!
