Thursday 10th October 2013

Each month Mediplacements would like to recognise one of our locums for their personal achievement and commitment to the Healthcare service!

Name: Dr Tahira Adnan

Profession: Medical Registrar

Where are you from? Pakistan

Current Locum position? Speciality Registrar in acute General Medicine

Personal achievements within the role?
Great feedback from my consultant, and having had my contracted extended within the hospital.

What do you enjoy about being a locum?
I have two boys and my husband is a businessman who has a busy life which includes business visits aboard, being a locum gives me flexibility and helps me find a balance between work and my personal life, of course with added benefit of pay. I have been working with Mediplacements for past 3 years and have found them extremely professional and helpful; finding the right jobs which suit your family life, best rates and payments are always prompt, without any delays.
I was offered my current position initially for a month and have been asked to continue for 6 months - it’s one of the best hospitals, with excellent facilities and great staff! It’s one of the busy hospitals but is well staffed and I enjoy every day of my work, thanks to Mediplacements for finding me the right job!

Most memorable moment within your career?
Quiet a few moments…mostly related to my patients and their relatives. Recently I spoke to the sister of one of my patient who wasn’t very well, unfortunately she passed away the next day. Her sister saw me, she was in tears, I stopped and said sorry for her loss and she hugged me and said “thanks for looking after my sister so well in her last days and especially for calling me and letting me know how unwell she has been.”

Also as one of my patient was leaving the ward and I said good bye to her, she took my hand in her hands and said “thank you so much for looking after me, I will miss your smile every morning now” - It was really sweet of her.
