Locum of the Month

Thursday 20th September 2012

Each month Mediplacements would like to recognise one of our locums for their personal achievement and commitment to the Healthcare service!

Name: Michelle Norman

Profession: Speech & Language Therapist

Where are you from? Australia

Current Locum position? Band 6 Paediatric Speech & Language Therapist - Community

What do you enjoy about your job?
The opportunity I have to assist in improving a child’s communication skills with friends and family and for their involvement in the community. Additionally, when a parent says ‘thank you’ for even for the smallest success with their child’s communication, a sense of contentment and joy stays with me. My job can be continuously rewarding when you can see the success in both the big and small goals.

Personal achievements within your role?
The autonomy and flexibility I am able to have with running my own caseload whilst maintaining connections and support with colleagues and multidisciplinary professionals.

How do you unwind from work?
I alternate my afternoons between a glass of wine or sport. I have wonderful house mates that I enjoy chatting, cooking dinner and watching movies with.

If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 items would you take?
1.) A friend, so I don’t become socially isolated
2.) A boat, because I don’t think I could make a raft to float!
3.) A slinky! The best therapy tool I’ve ever had – truly. A speech & Language Therapist is always prepared in any scenario…
