Locum in the Spotlight October

Monday 24th October 2011

Each month Mediplacements would like to recognise one of our locums for their personal achievement and commitment to the Healthcare service.

Name: Maree Andrews

Profession: Speech and Language Therapist

Where are you from? Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

Current Locum position?
Speech and Language Therapist (SLT), Grade 6.

What do you like about your job?
I love to chat, socialise and interact with people. Which is great, as one of the most important parts of my role is to maximise the communication and/or swallowing function of individuals with an impairment impacting these areas.

It is very rewarding to be able to give a ‘voice’ and advocate for someone, even in a small way, who is vulnerable and needing help and support.

Personal achievements within your role?
I have been very fortunate that I have been able to work with many inspiring patients and clinicians who challenge me to continue to develop as a therapist.

I am very excited to take on this new adventure and begin working in a health system different to what I am familiar with. I am also looking forward to mastering the local accent!

How do you unwind from work?
I am a typical girly girl! I love going out with my friends, dancing, shopping or watching a great film but my guilty pleasure is trashy, celebrity gossip and reality television. I am addicted to The Only way is Essex (TOWIE!!) and can’t wait to see how the Maria/Mick/Gemma relationship is going to play out! Shu-Up!
