Mediplacements are seeking to recruit a highly skilled and experienced band 5 Adult Audiologist to work with one of our clients based in Cumbria.
This is a full-time position due to start as soon as possible with a pay rate of £19-£20 per hour depending on experience.
Job Description:
* Select, set up, calibrate and perform a range of audiological investigations on both adults and children, in accordance with recognised procedures and standards, to evaluate hearing acuity and assist in diagnosis, including pure tone audiometry, behavioural assessment, speech discrimination, tympanometry and otoscopic examination.
* Analyse and interpret results of investigative procedures and formulate appropriate rehabilitation strategies for patients with respect to their audiological status, communication skills and social needs.
* Evaluate patients referred directly from their GPs for audiological investigation and hearing aid provision, interpreting information obtained from their reported history, otoscopic examination and audiological investigation with reference to departmental protocols, to assess their suitability for hearing aids or the necessity for referral to ENT.
* Provide Audiological support to ENT clinics across the sites we cover.
* Report findings directly to GPs and other relevant medical personnel to facilitate further management.
* Take accurate and safe impressions of the ears in both adults and children following nationally recognised procedures, and determine the type of ear mould required to meet clients' audiological needs.
* Modify ear moulds when appropriate, using drills, buffers and grinders to facilitate a comfortable fit and good acoustic seal in the client's ear.
* Select, programme, verify and evaluate appropriate hearing aids for adults in line with MHAS and departmental protocols.
* Provide instruction and counselling on the effective use of hearing aids, communicating realistic expectations and advice on the nature and effect of hearing loss.
* Participate in open access hearing aid repair sessions, effectively dealing with patients' enquiries and problems and carrying out repairs and modifications to hearing aid systems as appropriate.
* Assist in the assessment and rehabilitation of babies and children with confirmed permanent hearing loss, using age-appropriate investigative procedures including behavioural assessment, visual reinforcement audiometry, tympanometry, oto-acoustic emissions and evoked response audiometry.
* Comply with infection prevention and control procedures at all times.
* Comply with responsibility to safeguard children and vulnerable adults, ensuring attendance at appropriate training.
* Take personal responsibility for putting the person receiving care first, and to challenge poor care/practise, doing so as soon as any shortcomings are seen.
* Undertake remote access hearing aid adjustments when appropriate.
